Smith & Smith, Attorneys was founded in 1946 and has been at the forefront in the Kentuckiana area in counseling its clients on labor and employment matters. From its inception, Smith & Smith has represented public and private employers in matters involving labor and employment law. The firm places its emphasis on consulting and advising its clients on labor and employment-related matters in an effort to avoid litigation, and on vigorously defending its clients when they are embroiled in controversies or lawsuits. In the traditional labor law area, Smith & Smith advises and represents its clients in union organizing campaigns, decertification elections, proceedings before the National Labor Relations Board, collective bargaining negotiations, and other matters arising out of application of state and federal labor laws. In the employment law area, the firm counsels and advises its clients with respect to in matters relating to wage-hour laws, civil rights laws, discrimination issues, wrongful discharge, and employment related tort matters. The firm also advises its clients with respect to in matters involving federal contract compliance laws, the Americans With Disabilities Act; the Occupational Safety and Health Act; the Family and Medical Leave Act; other federal and state employment statutes and regulations; employee policies and procedures; employment and independent contractor agreements; and preventative training of the supervisory personnel in all aspects of the employment relationship.

In furtherance of its dedication to its clients to provide preventative counseling to avoid potential legal problems in the workplace, the firm annually hosts a seminar for its clients to address matters of current interest and concern in labor and employment law. Members of the firm regularly participate as lecturers in legal seminars and employee training programs, have served as adjunct professors teaching traditional labor law, and have been published in various legal practice manuals.
